Thanks to the support of official statistical agencies from a large number of European countries, the Integrated European Population Microdata (IEPM) database (previously Integrated European Census Microdata-IECM) is now under construction. With major funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States, integration and full documentation of the data are being organized by the Minnesota Population Center. In addition, the Centre d'Estudis DemogrĂ fics (CED) has been successful in attracting European Union research programmes (FP6, FP7 and H2020) support for enhancing, harmonizing and disseminating the integrated European microdata and metadata as well as for coordinating tasks based in Europe.

IEPM currently provides access to 75 integrated census samples for 20 European countries from 1962 to 2011. IEPM represents over one-half billion Europeans, with almost 65 million sampled households and 150 million individual registers. By 2022, coverage is likely to exceed 90% of the population of Europe.
